Tiny Habits, Big Changes: My Journey to Sustainable Wellness

It was yet another Tuesday afternoon,

And there I was—gasp—as though it was never going to come after climbing one set of stairs. Yep,

You read that right—one whole single flight. So at that time,

I absolutely felt like that character in a play of a soap opera drama who clutches his chest as though

He had just completed some marathon running event.

Only, I hadn't. In my mid-30s and running out of breath doing normal activities? Something had to change.

Here's the kicker, though—assumed it was going to take MAJOR LIFE OVERHAULS in order to really turn around something like my health.

You know, like you have to eat nothing but kale and do workouts that make you question your life choices.

I was wrong. Enter TINY HABITS, and all of a sudden, this idea of getting healthy didn't seem so very daunting.

The First Step I realized that it is SUSTAINABLE WELLNESS, meaning overnight huge, sweeping changes wouldn't be possible.

It is about Changing with small, easy steps that fit your every day. Here's how my journey began:

MORNING HYDRATION

First off, I decided I was gonna kick-start the day with a glass of WATER. No smoothies, no detox teas—just plain old water.

But just for kicks, I did get myself a fancy WATER BOTTLE,

something like you see in sci-fi movies. Every morning, chugging it down, readying myself for that epic battle ahead.

And guess what? I'm actually pretty surprised at how REFRESHED and ENERGIZED it makes one feel.

DAILY MOVEMENT

Rather than suffer through an hour of cruel exercises daily, I began to sneak in some MOVEMENT within my daily life.

It became my thing to park further away from store entrances. I began taking the STAIRS—the very same stairs that left me gasping for air.

And here's a fun one: I did calf raises while brushing my teeth. It felt ridiculous but in a good way.

HEALTHY SNACKS

Next was my favorite part: snack-time.

My usual snack was really just a sugar bomb dressed in shiny packaging.

I replaced those with NUTS, FRUITS, and YOGURT. It felt like a betrayal to the palate,

But in no time, it was on board. To tell you the truth, I ended up loving these new, healthier choices. Who knew?

DEEP BREATHING

Any time I got stressed—which was honestly way more often than I like to admit—it'd be time for a few minutes of DEEP BREATHING.

Inhale deeply through the nose and exhale slowly through the mouth—easy as it sounds, but powerful in operation. I find it seems almost as if it's a mental reset button.

As these small habits became part of my daily routine, I began to notice significant improvements:

MORE ENERGY:

Hydrating in the morning, along with more substantial snacks, helped me keep my energy up all day long.

There were no more afternoon slumps where I felt like the walking dead.

BETTER MOOD:

Regular movement, in combination with deep breathing, just worked magic on reducing stress levels and really aiding my mood.

I was the human equivalent of a happy puppy.

IMPROVED FITNESS:

All of those small daily activities began to pay off in slowly building up my stamina and strength.

Stairs no longer felt like the face of Mount Everest. WEIGHT CONTROL: With healthier eating habits and frequent movement,

I was able to maintain a healthy weight without feeling as though I were deprived or miserable. Words of Wisdom!

Here are some tips from my journey in building sustainable wellness habits:

THINK:

Get started with really small habits that are a breeze to incorporate in your day.

Small changes can make a big difference over time.

BE CONSISTENT

It's the inconsistency that kills. Continue pursuing your new habits until they become second nature.

PRAISE PROGRESS:

Make sure to celebrate the little victories. Did you go for an apple instead of a candy bar? Well, pat yourself on the back!

BE GOOD TO YOURSELF:

Stop beating yourself up over one mistake. Progress, not perfection.

So, as you know now, sticking to well-being doesn't mean going in for a major overhaul. It is taking every tiny stride that we possibly can and doing our best in life.

Now be CONSISTENT, stay HEALTHY—and above all, STAY FAB
